Okra, also known as “lady’s fingers,” is a
green flowering plant. Okra belongs to the
same plant family as hibiscus and cotton.
The term “okra” most commonly refers to
the edible seedpods of the plant.
Known to originate from northeastern
Africa, the pods of okra compose healthy
amounts of vitamin-A, and flavonoid
anti-oxidants such as beta-carotene,
xanthin, and lutein; it is one of the
vegetables with highest levels of these
antioxidants
